Newton Running Staffers Run Marathon to Raise Funds for IBD Foundation
(Boulder, Colo.)— Newton Running, the leaders in natural running footwear and education, is sending six employees to run the ING New York City Marathon on November 6 to raise funds for the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the care, quality of life and treatment options for children with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
“Newton Running believes that every child deserves a healthy, active life and we are proud to do something about this disease that affects 1.4 million Americans and robs children of their energy and well-being,” says Wendy Lee, International Support and Social Responsibility Coordinator for Newton Running. Funds raised will support the Biome Genome Project, a research initiative into the causes and possible cures for pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.
Visit the Pediatric IBD Foundation pledge webpage to make a donation in support of Newton Running staffers Wendy Lee, her father and company CEO Jerry Lee, Vice President Anne Klein, Director of Field Marketing Doug Bertram and Regional Sales Managers Mark Rochon and Ryan Bassham, who are running the ING New York City Marathon. Donors who pledge $500 or more to the IBD Foundation will be automatically entered into a raffle to receive one of 10 free pairs of Newton Running shoes.
Plus when you purchase shoes at www.newtonrunning.com between October 6 and November 5, $1 goes to the Pediatric IBD Foundation.
Running alongside the Newton staffers at the New York Marathon will be triathlete Bo Parrish, who was diagnosed with IBD at age 13 and suffered from anemia, chronic fevers and other health issues until age 26, when he had an emergency colostomy and was outfitted with an external pouch. Parrish began running, biking and swimming and has since finished four Ironman triathlons and is a member of Team Timex. “Being so close to death taught me to make the most of every day,” says Parrish. “That includes raising awareness about this debilitating condition and supporting companies like Newton Running that want to make a difference.”

The Newton Ready to Run 20 Miler mimics the experience of running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon by providing runners, half of whom train with CARA’s summer marathon training program, a fully supported 20-miler as their last long training session before tapering for the 26.2-mile marathon on October 9. About 4000 marathoners-in-training are expected at the Newton Ready to Run 20 Miler.
“We chose to work with CARA because we share a commitment to natural running education and we consider Chicago one of America’s premier running cities,” says Doug Bertram, Director of Grassroots Marketing for Newton Running, who oversees the Newton Natural Running™ Symposia and Coaching Certification Programs.
Since its launch in 2010, Newton Natural Running™ Symposia and Coaching Certification programs have taught thousands of runners around the world how to reduce the chance of injury and run faster and more efficiently by adopting a natural running posture and the benefits of natural running shoes.
Newton Running is also sponsoring CARA’s eight-week Beginning Running, 5K and 10K training programs in the Chicago area starting this October. A dozen of CARA’s volunteer group leaders will become Newton Natural Running™ Certified Coaches and lead training runs and educate participants about natural running form, how to prevent injuries and more.
The two organizations also share a mutual commitment to social responsibility. CARA underwrites 60 charities including the American Cancer Society and PAWS Chicago, and Newton Running raises funds and donations for Athletes for a Cure, Trickle Up, One World Running and many more.

Team Alchemy will officially debut at Boulder, Colorado’s Pearl Street Mile race on August 11. The race begins at 7 p.m., immediately followed by a happy hour reception at the Newton Running Lab at 7:30 pm.
“Team Alchemy was designed to showcase our talented employees who are also dedicated runners and hardcore athletes,” says Jerry Lee, CEO and co-founder of Newton Running. “This local team differs from our national team of sponsored runners and triathletes in that it embodies the internal corporate culture that influences all aspects of our brand and products.”

New members will be selected and added to the team’s roster on an ongoing basis. “We all love the sport and Team Alchemy allows competitive runners within and around Newton to express that passion to the greater running community,” says Neuman.

Through competing at both short and long distances on road, trail and track, Alchemy athletes will demonstrate the versatility of Newton Running shoes.

Newton Running Debuts the MV2
(Boulder, CO) – This September, leading natural-running education and footwear brand Newton Running is launching the MV2, a super lightweight, zero-drop shoe that encourages a natural-running posture, provides protection and energy return. The 5.8-ounce MV2 (pronounced M V squared) offers a unique solution for runners who want to run faster, perform better and avoid injury by adopting a natural running stride, but not sacrifice protection.
"While all Newton Running shoes feature a low heel-to-toe ramp angle to support natural-running posture, the next logical addition to our line was a shoe that was completely parallel to the ground,” says Newton Running co-founder Danny Abshire. “The MV2 facilitates landing on your midfoot instead of the heel, which supports proper biomechanical alignment, faster turnover rate and greater running efficiency. This means you run faster with less effort."
The MV2’s second-generation Action/Reaction Technology™ is the next evolution of Newton Running’s patented midsole technology. Five articulating lugs align with the foot’s five metatarsal heads. With each step, the low-profile lugs depress into a chamber and rebound quickly with the aid of a highly resilient membrane.
Therefore, unlike racing flats or minimalist shoes that employ a thin layer of midsole EVA foam, which dissipates energy and breaks down rapidly, the MV2's Action/Reaction Technology™ provides long-lasting impact reduction without dampening responsiveness or proprioception.
The highly breathable mesh upper is reinforced with a durable microscreen to block out dirt and debris and transparent PU support strapping ensures a high-performance fit.
Included with every pair of the MV2 are instructions for adjusting to a zero-drop shoe.
The MV2 is available in men’s sizes 6 to 14 and women’s sizes 4.5 to 12 and will retail for $125. Pre-orders are available now at www.newtonrunning.com and will be in specialty retailers by mid-September 2011.

Newton Running Retains Breakaway as Marketing Agency of Record
(Boulder, CO)—Newton Running, the leader in natural running footwear and education, signed an agreement to retain Breakaway, a Boston-based marketing firm on June 15. Breakaway is charged with developing a new marketing strategy, conducting a rebranding process and redesigning Newton Running’s print collateral and website, www.newtonrunning.com, as well as its yet-to-be launched consumer-education website, www.naturalrunning.com.
“Our staff’s dedication and belief in our technology has brought Newton Running to the forefront of the athletic-footwear market,” says Newton Running President Keith Simmons. “Breakaway’s strategic and creative acumen combined with our in-house grassroots marketing efforts will certainly take us to a new level.”
The newly assembled in-house grassroots marketing team enhances Newton Running’s presence at race expos, in-store events such as Newton Natural Running™ form clinics and Newton Natural Running™ Coaching Certification Programs, and promotes its broad team of athletes and sponsored events.
“Newton Running is poised to become a brand that you look back on in 10 years and realize it was ahead of its time,” says Scott Maney, Breakaway’s chief creative officer. “They use science to challenge conventional thinking by throwing the equivalent of a large rock into the running-footwear pool and we'll help accelerate the resulting ripple."
Bringing additional deep industry insight to the project is Breakaway’s managing partner, Dennis Baldwin, the former chief marketing officer for Reebok.
Newton Running shoes allow runners to achieve the posture of a barefoot runner-landing midfoot/forefoot rather than the heel-while its patented Action/Reaction Technology™ provides energy return. Newton Running shoes are favored by several of the world’s top triathletes and are rapidly growing in popularity with runners of all abilities.
The partnership with Breakaway comes on the heels of a June 3 agreement that Newton Running is receiving a significant investment from Boston-based Fireman Capital Partners.
